Deeper Study Launched from Romans 8:1-14

By Marc Engelhardt

This Sunday we talked about baptism, what it is, what it does, and who does it.

The scripture we looked at was: Romans 6:1-11, 8:1-14; John 3:1-6; Acts 2:36-39, 10:43-48, 22:14-16; Titus 3:3-6; 1Corinthians 2:1-12; Ephesians 4:1-16.

As you can see we covered a lot, but  we didn’t nearly cover everything and we won’t in this study either.

Take a look at Romans 8:15-17. Paul writes that through the Spirit we become adopted sons (and daughters) and so we are heirs with Christ. Which means we are heirs of eternal life and the kingdom of God. This is important because it means that until we are adopted through the Holy Spirit, we are heirs of something else.

Read Romans 5:12-21. This is probably one of the clearest sections of scripture addressing original sin. While it does not say the word “original” the concept is there. All people are born sinful because we are heirs of Adam and Eve’s first sin. What lines in this section of scripture point towards this idea? See how Paul points to Jesus being the one way to forgiveness of all sin.
